The flaw in Activerain’s Thinking…

Social Networking Websites MUST learn from Activerain's Announcement...Today, Feb 16th 2009, came the announcement that Activerain will monetize from Agents when they Blog!!! (Forgetting that it was those Blogs that made the Network Powerful with Search Engines.)

The power of Activerain will then diminish as loyal participants realize that they hold such a power with their ideas and their content and will choose to participate in other friendlier platforms.

The power of the network is larger than the individual… But those who hold the network tightly must tread lightly or lose influence…

Want an example… Think Myspace.com (It is declining and FaceBook is becoming the most Successful Model Ever…)

So today we breakup with Activerain; what a shame - she used to be so much fun...

Activerain announcement to start charging Real Estate Professional for Blogging and ignoring that it was their contributions that created their visibility will lead to the failure of the network, and agents will transition to new platforms that understand what is at the core of every Real Estate Transaction: the REALTORS… STOP Bleeding them dry!!!

All Social Networks must respect their members and stop trying to monetize from ALL Participants… the way to monetize is to offer additional layers of services that appeal to 10% of the network…

Note to Social Network Providers: Offer an open network for all participants then offer a layer of special additional tools for those who desire automation and are willing to pay for it… Run your network on 10% of your network – NOT by thinking you will get a Dollar from all participants… and YES do it with limited advertising...

Want examples of network failures… MSN, AT&T, and unfortunately Zillow… (Note: This is Zillow's chance to take on Activerain and Trulia by offering Free Services for Blogging and Listings Visibility!!!)

How about AOL… Good Night AOL sleep tight!!! (Tight control of the the internet spells doom...)

Want a name of a successful growing network: Trulia.com. (Zolve is slowly growing and will benefit from Activerain's Announcement…)

Activerain was the most successful such Social Network for Real Estate Professionals and everyone was trying to emulate them… the good news is that it opens Trulia and Zolve to become the most attractive Social Networking Services for Realtors… (PS: WannaNetwork and BrokerAgentSocial – STOP confusing your Agents with changes that are haphazard and capricious…)

So What is the lesson… Social Networking Websites Should Stop creating Networks so they can control them and look to milk agents from every dime they are making… Worse STOP pretending that you have SEO Tools that transcends the truth of Search Engine Visibility… Activerain became visible because of the content the Real Estate Professionals who dedicated themselves to adding daily…

So Goodbye Activerain and hello Trulia, Zolve, and Condo.com!!! (and maybe a Hello to BrokerAgentSocial, and Zillow, and WannaNetwork…)

Hum… Cook it up with Ctrl-K!!!

Key Training in Garner NC - Real Estate Web Strategy - February 2009Real Estate Websites come in all shapes and forms but an important ingredient in their makeup has remained obscure… When I ask Brokers and Realtors: "What's a Web Page?" – they are stumped!!! They keep seeking philosophical answers that go beyond the obvious components of a Web Page. I hear everything but the obvious ingredients such as: text, pics and links...

It can't be that easy...

I claim: "Anyone can create a “Web Page!”"

I claim: "Putting together a “Web Page” is easier than using Microsoft Word!"

I claim: "You start with a Web Page to create a Website! (Duhhh!!!)"

I claim: "There is nothing inherently different between a “Web Page” and a “Blog Page.” – One allows for comments the other not!"

I claim: "Those who commit themselves to Blogging (Writing a Web Page) once a week will have the highest visibility in their Real Estate Market!!!"

Feb 19th, 2009: Led by George White at Exit Realty Professionals and joined by a big group from Fayetteville under the leadership of Tom Vick and Michelle Shortsleeve, Key Yessaad held a training on Real Estate Web Strategy that was well recieved by all Exit Participants: Debi Bobo , Keith Burch, Julie Chastain, Clark Cook, Tony Craver , Dan Helmer, John Huber, Neal Pettijohn, Candilee Quigley, Christina Sams, Michelle Shortsleeve, Paul Smith, Johnnyette Taylor, Luther A. Tinsley Jr., Tom Vick, Rhonda Westbrook, George White, Paulette Williams, and Melinda Wright.

So how do I proceed?

  1. You must be able to put words together into sentences and paragraphs – we call that writing. Everyone is capable of doing this. You cannot be a story-teller without the ability to write. But don’t fret we are not looking for brilliant discourse; you are focusing on sharing the happenings of your community to the general public – and using blogs is the way to go. You get the point?!

  2. Inserting pictures would be nice – but not required…

  3. The only ingredient left to add are links – it’s so easy… Ctrl-K. Yes by using the combination of Keys on your Keyboard “CTRL” and “K” you create a link.

  4. The web would not exist without links – you are always headed somewhere else on the web by clicking on links. In fact the internet would be called a “Book” if it did not have links; Right!?

  5. So how do you create a link? Easy…
  • (a.) Know your destination: Each web page has an address; it’s called a URL. You will see it in your browser: http://www.realestatewebtrainer.com/real-estate-internet-strategy-index.html
     
  • (b.) Copy that Page Address. (Select the URL and hit Ctrl-C; or Right-Click and select Copy.)
     
  • (c.) Select and highlight the text you want to link: for example in the sentence: “Key Yessaad is a Real Estate Web Trainer.” I want to link the words “Real Estate Web Trainer” to the address above.
     
  • (d.) Hit “Ctrl-K” by holding the Control Key “CTRL” and tapping the letter “K” – a window will pop and all you have to do is Paste (Ctrl-V) the URL address you copied in step (b.)
     
  • (e.) You are done: You will end up with something like this:
    “Key Yessaad is a Real Estate Web Trainer.”
    if you click on the link it will then take you to the page on step (a)
     
  • (f.) Remember: You can link anything to anywhere. And isn’t that the essence of the Web…?!

So start Blogging and become your local community expert – stop pretending you have expertise in every aspect of Real Estate and become locally focused and customer oriented; you will love the results and your clients will love you!!!

Why the Emphasis on Strategy? – Garner Real Estate Training

Success Strategy - Real Estate Web Strategy Garner TrainingMethodical, diligent work that adds up to something meaningful is the cornerstone of success in all endeavors. For the longest time, and for many Real Estate Professionals, Real Estate has been about the pursuit of the deal; and although there is nothing wrong in chasing deals, especially in a market like this one, lots of energy is expanded and it seems as though the Realtor is re-inventing the wheel with each transaction. (and for many it creates a lack of discipline and focus.)

To Strategize is to have a method to your madness, a trusted routine that helps “create” each work day, and accumulates to weeks and months of measurable accomplishments… I am not talking about goals, those are the fruit of your labor – I am talking about the steps and activities that make up your goals. For example, let us assume you have an Effectiveness Conversion rate of 30 to 1; meaning that if you spoke to 30 people about Real Estate you will convert one into a client; and let us assume you desired to have 2 clients a month; your life is therefore quite simple: You must have 720 Real Estate Conversations a year, but better yet: it translates into 3 conversations a workday… By focusing on the strategy you will then create the conditions that force you to have 3 conversations with potential clients each workday and you will make sure your day does not end without this occurring… You have just moved from the realm of thinking and gnawing at your thoughts into the realm of action… (I hear some of you saying to me – well give me the 3 people a day and I will show you; WRONG: You are in Real Estate and no one gives you anything… everything is earned and successful Realtors know that. PS: Successful Agents turn this Discipline on its head! They create the conditions for the world to send them enough Real Estate Contacts to convert Sales…)

But no matter, the example above does not seem to have anything to do with my trainings (Real Estate Internet Strategy.) It sure does: The Internet, Google, Blogs, and Social Media don’t really matter if we are not talking; If “We are Talking We are Selling.” I train Brokers and Realtors how to compete online and I give them a “Strategy” for Success: this means Planning, Long Term Implementation, Weekly Application, and a Vision to hold it all together…

The Internet is the platform of communication with our clients and it needs to be embraced Thoughtfully and Strategically!!!

A Good Strategist has the following qualities: 
    • Is Ultimately Responsible. 
    • Sees Problems as Opportunities to Improve. 
    • Balances Short- and Long-term Needs. 
    • Keeps Calm when the unexpected occurs. 
    • Is a Skilled Communicator.

Did he say Ctrl-K or “Control Key” – Charlotte Real Estate Training goes bang!!!

Bang… Yes I heard that noise go off in many of the agents’ heads and smiles who attended “Charlotte Real Estate Blogging Strategy.” – In fact many of them said so using terms such as: “I get it now!,” “I know what to do now!,” and all promised to have a blog posted within a week and start blogging weekly and become the community market leaders.

Charlotte Real Estate Blogging Strategy Training - Feb 12th, 2009The Brokers of Exit Realty South, John and Angie Byers, hosted 25+ agents for an intensive training and provided lunch with the compliments of Grubb Properties Inc. Real Estate Blogging Strategy - Charlotte North Carolina Thursday February 19th, 2009The Original name of the course was “Google Loves Bloggers,” to reveal the fact that if your blog posts are not “Search Engine Indexed” and lead back to you in a natural way then the effort is for not.

The questions a Real Estate Professional should help their clients answer are the following:

“How can I tell that you have expertise in your Real Estate Market?”

“Can I validate you online and “Google You” with Buzz around your Market expertise?”

“Is the information I find online about you fluff or substance?”

I designed this Seminar as a Real Estate Strategy for Visibility, Expertise, and Search Engine Ranking. You will learn the following:

  1. What is Blogging? – Very short time spent on this topic because the strategy is more important than the why.
     
  2. Why should Realtors Blog? Do I really need to do this?
     
  3. How are successful Real Estate Agents using this medium to position themselves?
     
  4. Where should I blog? My website right? not really!!!
     
  5. What should I blog about? And how often?
     
  6. What if the format of a good blog? At least can you get me started…? Do I have to become a writer? How about links?
     
  7. What does all this have to do with Google? Is this SEO? (Could you explain SEO briefly for us?)
     
  8. How much programming should I learn? (Let me give you the answer right here – ZERO!!!)
     
  9. How expensive is this whole strategy? Think time, perseverance, and elbow grease...
     
  10. How can my assistant help me with this?
     
  11. Does this strategy really work? And how fast? Can you show us examples?
